When it comes to blogging, you need a mixture of both evergreen and seasonal content. It doesn’t really matter what industry your business is in.
Wait, what’s the difference between the two types of content? Evergreen is as it sounds: it works the whole year round. Seasonal content, again, is as it sounds: it works for specific times of the year. Some seasonal content can be focused on specific yearly events, while others are based on news or events coming up in the local area.
Having a mixture of both will help you attract more people. Here’s why to opt for a mixture.
Capture All Searchers
Some people will look for specific blog posts or tips for certain times of the year. For example, they will look for tips to keep their Christmas budget to a minimum or the best type of gifts to buy mum for her birthday.
At the same time, you still have people searching for general information; non-event specific information.
These can all be prospective customers or clients, so you need to capture them all. With a mixture of blog content, you can do that.
Improve Your Earnings
If you’re using your blog to make extra money online, you can improve your earnings with a mixture of evergreen and seasonal content. Again, you capture all types of searchers.
With seasonal content, you can share specific products. For example, my student blog has recently had a range of Christmas gift ideas that students will be able to afford. My weight loss blog has focused on tips for handling Christmas party weight loss or making sure people don’t go completely off track over the Christmas season.
At the same time, not everyone is going to come to your blog looking for season-specific information. The students visiting my student blog will still want study tips and my dieters will still want help with tracking or managing their Weight Watchers allowance.
By offering both types of content, you improve your earnings. There are individuals who will be able to find something that works for them.
You Can Write and Leave In Some Cases
With seasonal content, you do need to keep it up to date. You’ll need to think about the time of year to promote and when to think about adding new posts. While it can boost sales at certain times of the year, it can become tiring and expensive if you hire a freelance blogger.
Evergreen content is relevant throughout the year. You can write it and leave it in many cases; just update it now and then. This will allow you to continually earn from it. It can just take time to see the same earnings you would with the seasonal content.
The benefit is that if you are away from your blog or you can’t hire a blogger for a period of time, your evergreen content can help keep your earnings up there.
Take the time to have a mixture of both evergreen and seasonal content. It will help you in the long run, as you capture all types of searchers and improve your earnings.
