One of the hardest tasks for some freelance writers and bloggers is coming up with blogging ideas. Whether we’re writing for ourselves or we’re writing for you, our clients, we have to go through a process to come up with ideas. It’s not enough to just write the first things that come to our head. Nor can we just write what we think might work. We need to go through research to make sure the topic is right for you.
When I offered my services on Fiverr, I kept things cheap by not coming up with the blogging ideas. I wanted the topic sent to me. If a buyer wanted me to come up with the idea, then they had to pay extra. When you hire me directly through the website, the cost to cover the time to come up with ideas is all worked into your service package, so there are no hidden fees!
But what does it take to come up with ideas? It’s a question I’ve been asked when people don’t really understand why I’ve charged more. Here are the steps I’ll go through to come up with the ideas, and where you can look too.
1. Frequently Asked Questions
The best source of ideas is your customers. Your blogger will look into the frequently asked questions or problems that your customers face. She will then craft a piece around each question and problem. That will give you at least five posts depending on your type of business and the amount of FAQs you have.
In some cases, this can lead to other blog post ideas. Your blogger may realize that there’s a commonly asked question that needs to be further adapted on or that another question arises that you haven’t covered. This leads to more content.

2. Other Ways of Using Products
Do you have products that can be used in different ways? Bloggers are great with creativity and will find methods of use that you never even considered. They will also listen to customers to see what they do with your products.
Your blogger can come up with tips on how to use the products or even the way of adapting products for other uses. There may be topics about how to use items safely or why certain colors work better.
3. Developing Blogging Ideas from Each Post
As writers craft posts, new and fresh blogging ideas will pop into their heads. They’ll write these ideas down somewhere, and then come back to them at a later date.
They can also come up with ideas while walking around. I ghostwrite a lot about blinds and other window treatments. Now, I’ll think of ideas when I see someone with new types of blinds or when I see something in stores. I’ll make a note of the idea on my phone and go about my day until it comes writing.
4. The Latest News
The fourth way of getting blogging ideas is to listen to the latest news. It could be a new report published that covers your industry, or something may be going on with competitors or sister companies. Your customers will want to read your take on the matter.
This is something I do in the Entertainment niche. I’ll see a lot about canceled TV shows or news of actors leaving a series. It always leads to questions from fans, which become excellent blog posts.
5. Repurposing Old Content
Many bloggers look back at content previously written. This is especially the case for content from last year or the year before. Now, good bloggers won’t just copy the content. They will find new information to add in or come up with different takes to then craft something new and useful for your customers.
Blogging ideas never just come from thin air. Even the best bloggers get their inspiration from somewhere. However they do it, they will always look into how the ideas will help your customers to make sure the post is worthwhile and helpful.

I’m not a freelance blogger, but I do agree with the point that as one write blog posts more ideas for future posts are triggered. You also gave me an idea to implement into my own blogging routine i.e using FAQ’s to craft blog posts.
Very informative post.
That’s great to hear about giving you new ideas to implement in your own blogging routine. Good luck!
Great post! I’m actually doing FAQ’s for the month of July for my blog. One of the areas I’m still working on is to repurpose “old” content . . . I’m struggling to find the balance of completely rewriting and just changing a few lines. I know the middle is where the greatest value is – for my readers, and for my productivity!
That’s great to hear! Finding that fine line between rewriting and changing a bit is difficult. Don’t forget there’s also the adding of new statistics and ideas to try and fit in there too to make it different for your readers! Good luck, Lisa.
Really enjoying your posts, very imformative, popping by from the UCB x
Thanks, Rachel. It’s great to see you again.
