How often should you blog? This is one of the most common questions I’m asked as a freelance blogger for hire. Many people expect me to give an exact number that will help them get the most viewers and make the most profit.
The problem is there isn’t one exact answer to this question. Whenever I answer, I can’t really give a figure. It really does depend.
All businesses are different. All blogs are different. Your audience will not be the same as mine. In fact, I have six different blogs, and I have a different frequency of posting for some of them because my audience for those blogs want something different.
So, how often should you blog? Here are three factors to consider.
How Much Time Do You Have?
Do you have the time to blog on a daily basis? If you’re hiring a freelance blogger, do you have the money for your blogger to share content on a daily basis? Can your blogger even commit to that schedule for you?
Think realistically in terms of time right now. If you don’t have the time to blog daily, don’t set out to do that right now. Consider once or twice a week to get yourself started.
Yes, blogging daily can certainly help you but it does require effort to stick to that. Trust me, I’ve tried and it isn’t the easiest thing to do.
What Does Your Audience Want?
Think about your customer persona—that person you’ve created to blog to. If you haven’t created a persona yet, you really need to get to work on it. You see, this will really help you target all your posts perfectly to your audience.
How often does your audience want you to blog? Not everyone will want to receive an update on a daily basis. They may be happy with weekly blog posts or even monthly ones. Many just want you to create a schedule and stick to that schedule.
If you’re not sure, contact your audience. Ask them how often they want you to blog. That quickly gets rid of the question how often should you blog?
What Is Your Blog All About?
Really, you need to think about the point of your blog. Is it an informational blog or do you share updates about things happening in your industry? You may even blog about the current events.
These reasons to blog will help dictate how often you should blog. For example, if you blog about updates in your industry, you’ll only be able to blog when there are updates. If you blog about current events, you’ll likely need daily posts because there is always something happening.
Consider the reason for your blog. Think about what it is really about and how often that tells you to blog. It links to your audience and how often people think you should blog.
There really isn’t one answer to the question how often should you blog? It really does depend on a number of factors, including your own schedule and what your blog is all about. It can take some trial and error as you find the optimum posting schedule for you.
